In our previous post, we showed you how to identify your phone model to pick the right case. In this guide, we’ll explain how to find your smartwatch model so you can choose the correct adapter and band size with confidence.
Switching to a leather watch band is one of those small upgrades that instantly elevates your daily look. Real leather softens with wear, develops a rich patina, and pairs as easily with a hoodie as it does with a blazer. It’s durable, repairable, and timeless. If you’re shopping for yourself (or looking for a gift), there’s only one hurdle to clear first: What size band do you need?
Below is a simple, brand-by-brand guide to finding the right case size and/or lug width, plus a few quick tips.
First, a 30-Second Sizing Glossary
- Case size (mm): The height of your watch case measured vertically (e.g., 40 mm, 44 mm). Apple and Fitbit usually talk in case size.
- Lug width (mm): The distance between the two lugs where the strap fits (e.g., 20 mm, 22 mm). Samsung (and many traditional watches) use lug width.
- Connector style: Some brands use proprietary connectors. Always match the device family (e.g., Apple Watch 40/41 mm) or the lug width (e.g., 20 mm).
A ruler that reads millimeters is enough in a pinch. For the most accurate measurement, use a set of calipers.
Apple Watch: Find Your Case Size and Band Compatibility
Where to look (fastest):
- Turn your Apple Watch over. The case size is engraved on the back (e.g., “41 mm” or “45 mm”).
- Or open the Watch app → General → About → Model to confirm the exact model.
Compatibility rule of thumb:
- 38 mm, 40 mm, and 41 mm Apple Watches use the same band connection.
-
42 mm, 44 mm, 45 mm, and 49 mm (Ultra/Ultra 2/Ultra 3) share another band connection group.
Choose the leather band for Apple iWatch that matches your group and you’re set.

Samsung Galaxy Watch: Confirm the Model and Lug Width
Samsung officially says that, Samsung typically uses a standard spring-bar lug width:
- Most modern Galaxy Watch, Watch4, Watch5, Watch6 (40/44 mm) models use 20 mm lugs.
- Larger cases (e.g., Watch3 45 mm, older Galaxy Watch 46 mm) commonly use 22 mm lugs.
- Watch 6 Classic 43 mm → 20 mm; Watch6 Classic 47 mm → 22 mm.
How to check on the watch:
Settings → About watch → Model. Then confirm the lug width in the specs or simply measure the inner gap between the lugs with a millimeter ruler. If it’s about 20 mm, choose a 20 mm strap; if it’s 22 mm, choose a 22 mm strap.
Besides, many replacement straps are stamped “20” or “22” on the underside. A quick sanity check before you buy. Our Galaxy leather watch bands fit both, 20mm and 22mm.

Fitbit: Identify the Device Family (connectors vary)
Fitbit devices use different attachment systems depending on the model. Some share families, others are unique.
How to confirm your model quickly:
- Open the Fitbit app → Today tab → your profile photo → Your Devices. Tap the device to see its full name.
- You’ll also find the device name on the back of the case or on your original packaging.
Compatibility notes (high level):
- Versa 3 / Versa 4 / Sense / Sense 2 share the newer “quick-release” style unique to these models.
- Versa / Versa Lite / Versa 2 use a different connector and are not compatible with the newer family.
- Charge, Inspire, Luxe lines all have their own connectors as well.
If you’re gifting: Ask which Fitbit model they wear (e.g., “Sense 2,” “Versa 4,” “Inspire 3”) and you’re golden. That’s all you need to select the proper band.
Don’t have the specs? Measure in seconds
- Remove the current band (most bands have a small quick-release pin or button).
- Measure the lug gap. Place a millimeter ruler between the two inner lugs.
- Round to the nearest even number: 18 mm, 20 mm, 22 mm are the most common.
For Apple/Fitbit (where case size or family matters more than lug width), use the engraving on the back or the app route above.
Ready to Pick a New Watch Band?
If you’ve identified your watch model and the correct case or band width, you’re ready to shop. You can go with silicone or leather. But here’s why leather often wins:
- Elevated look, every day: Genuine leather instantly dresses up your watch for work, dinners, and events while still looking great with casual wear. You can choose cuff, slim, double tour or classic model in our collection.
- Comfort that improves with time: Leather breaks in, molds to your wrist, and breathes better than most synthetics (no sticky feel).
- A patina with character: Quality leather ages beautifully, developing a rich tone that’s uniquely yours.
- Repairable & long-lasting: Hardware can be replaced and leather can be re-conditioned, so your band lasts for years.
- Versatile style options: From classic smooth finishes to braided textures and custom thread colors, leather lets you personalize the look.
If you’re swimming regularly or need a band for intense water sports, silicone is a practical backup. For everyday wear and a premium finish, leather is the best choice.
Make It a Gift They’ll Wear Every Day
A leather watch band is a thoughtful holiday gift because:
- It’s useful (daily wear).
- It feels personal (you chose the color, hardware, and size).
- It looks luxurious without being flashy.
Personalization ideas
- Initials / name engraving on the inside of the band. Read our personalization page.
- Custom thread color or contrasting edge paint.
- Buckle/adapter color match (e.g., Silver, Black, Gold, Rose Gold, etc.).
- Add a gift message card or monogram for extra charm.

Troubleshooting: Common Sizing Mistakes
- Mixing up case size with lug width.
- Apple/Fitbit → focus on case size or device family.
- Samsung → focus on lug width (20 mm or 22 mm).
- Assuming all “Versa” models use the same band. They don’t. Check the exact Versa generation.
- Ignoring adapters. Apple Watch bands need the correct connector group (38/40/41 vs. 42/44/45/49).
- Measuring the strap, not the watch. Always measure the watch lugs (inner gap), not the old band’s outer width.
